Danny Ric out, Liam Lawson in
While I'm happy for Liam Lawson that he finally got a full-time ride in F1, I'm also sad that Daniel Ricciardo lost his. I think Lawson should have gotten his before the 2023 season instead of Nyck De Vries even though De Vries had an impressive debut in the 2022 Italian Grand Prix finishing 9th in a Williams which sadly was better than Logan Sargeant did in a Williams. However, De Vries got the sack 10 races into the 2023 season. In fairness, it did give Danny Ric a second chance in Formula One so there's that. If you've seen the Netflix show Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Danny Ric is one of the most entertaining drivers on the show if not the most entertaining driver. Some flat-out don't do the show or make a brief appearance. I wonder how much air time Logan Sargent will get in season 7 and yes there will be a season 7. Probably not as much as Danny Ric. I know people don't like Drive to Survive but it's a reason why F1's popularity grew and NASCAR and IndyCar had there own Drive to Survive-like show. It sucks to see guys like De Vires, Sargeant, and Danny Ric leave before the season but that's the business of Formula 1. If you don't perform, you're gone if even you won eight races like Danny Ric did. I like to see Danny Ric be a commentator on TV somewhere. I'm sure if be entertaining and less problematic than say Jacques Villeneuve and Danica Patrick. Seriously why is Danica Patrick commentating on F1 races. Commentate Indy Races since she was an Indy Car racer not F1. I'm sure Drive to Survive will find somewhere to keep Danny Ric on the show if they get an 8th season. They found a way to bring back Clarie Williams who owned Williams Racing until she sold it and she was on the latest season of DTS. I wonder if they would bring back Guenther Steiner who is currently a commentator for Sky Sports unless his buddy Mattias Binotto hires him to work for the Sauber/upcoming Audi team in 2026. Will Danny Ric race again? Probably not but who knows. I highly doubt it at least in Formula 1. Maybe in NASCAR, be apart of Trackhouse's Project 91 where they get Indycar, SuperCar, and Formula 1 drivers in the 91 car. Will he do it full-time? Unlikely especially in a clip in Drive to Survive he said he was scared of driving on ovals. Will he change his mind, unlikely but who knows. He is a Dale Sr. fan. As for the another driver, Liam Lawson. He does have five F1 races under his belt in 2023 after Danny Ric injured his wrist in a crash. In Lawson's third race in Singapore he finished 9th (yes, better than Logan Sargeant) and added two 11th-place finishes in Italy and Japan. Will he do better than Danny Ric? Who knows, Lawson will have a year-plus to find out. Well, I'm assuming he gets a full-time drive in 2025 but it's Red Bull, well B-team but still. If so, he'll be the fourth young driver getting his chance at the full-time ride joining Oliver Bearman (who has two F1 races under his belt), Jack Doohan, and Kimi Antonelli. I questioned Antonelli going to Mercedes but that's not my call. That's Toto Wolff's call and I doubt he would give a shit about my opinion on who he should put in his car. Will we see more? Who knows? I still can't believe Red Bull gave Sergio "Checo" Perez a two-year extension during the season and Max could say Fuck this I'm out. Wouldn't that be something? Red Bull does have a big junior program which includes Isack Hadjar who completeing the Formula 2 Championship and Ayumu Iwasa in Super Formula. It could happened with the drama going on with Red Bull with Christian Horner's WhatsApp messages and Christian and Max's allegedly not getting along, them losing Adrian Newey, a legendary F1 car designer to Aston Martin and whatever Dr. Marko is doing. Probably won't know until the offseason. It's going to sooner isn't it? Stay Tuned.
