Should Tua retire?

It's an age-long question for any athlete. OK, it depends on the athlete and their situation. Sometimes athletes have to call it a career because the phone stops ringing and they have no choice but to retire or play internationally, and sometimes play in the minors to prove they have something in the tank. Sometimes it's because of injuries especially concussions especially in the NFL. Luke Kuechly retired at 28 because of Concussions and Chris Borland retired after a solid rookie season with the 49ers because of concern for head trauma (Concussions). That leads me to Tua Tagovailoa after the Thursday night game against the Bills after he suffered another concussion after getting hit by Damar Hamlin. This is Tua's third concussion in two years which includes another game against the Bills in 2022 and then five days later he ended up starting for some reason and got another concussion against the Bengals again five days after his first concussion well the second concussion since he had one when he was playing at Bama. Was the concussion he suffered in the 2022 Bills game confirmed? There needs to be a rule if a player is suspected of having a concussion and their team is playing on Thursday, the player in question should not play. Hint, Hint NFL. Tua did miss two games after the Bengals game and returned to the field against the Steelers and continued playing until week 16 against the Packers where he suffered another concussion which sidelined him for the rest of the season. He even missed out on the Pro Bowl because of concussion protocols even though it's now a flag football game among other activities. Now, Tua is dealing with another concussion and now there is questions if he should continue or not. It has been proven that athletes have chosen health over their playing careers like Kuechly and Borland. The question is why Tua consider retirement? This is the same guy who got a big extension in the offseason, and a few other quarterbacks including Dak Prescott which he got just before the 2024 season opener against the Browns. If Tua does retire, the Dolphins will likely fight to get back the money they gave Tua. The Raiders head coach and former linebacker Antonio Pierce said that Tua should retire along with other former players like Dez Bryant and Tony Gonzalez. What do I think he should do? I think he should miss some games, listen to the medical staff and get a second and/or third option. I'm debating if he should finish the season and then decide in the offseason or just retire. Ultimately the decision is Tua's and Tua's only. I'm sure the medical staff will have a say and could suggest he should retire but again it's his choice. Athletes are competitors, more than likely there's not to going to quit until they say their done unless they stop getting calls or injuries mount. They want to play as long as they can. However, in cases like Tua's should they? It's better than walk away than to be carry off but again it's the athlete's decision and their's alone.
