Take the Points

Congrats to the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Franciso 49ers for going to the Super Bowl and a rematch of the Super Bowl four years ago. I wish it was the Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions, OK at least the Lions. I don't really care about the Ravens. If you're a Ravens fan, no offense and sorry about what happened but The Ravens didn't for me. A different story with the Lions, usually I'm against teams that beat my teams but I made an exception for the Lions and it looked like they were going to the Super Bowl leading 24-7 at halftime but the 49ers came back to win. Lions had their chance to put the game away but didn't. They dropped balls, overthrew balls, fumbled the ball, and dropped a would-be interception. However, I think the biggest mistake was Dan Campbell going for it twice on fourth down in field goal range and not getting it twice. They lost by 3, THREE!!!!! Those field goals would have made the difference. Yes, the Lions kicker Michael Badgley would have made those kicks and both would have been 45 yards and 48 yards. Not exactly gimmes but if you're an NFL Kicker you got to make those kicks otherwise you're not in the NFL. Even if one of those is made and another is missed, the game is going to overtime. That's on coach Dan Campbell especially after the Cowboys game where he went for it earlier in the game instead of kicking a field goal. Again they didn't convert on 4th down which led the controversy at the end of the game. If Dan Campbell decided to kick the field goal, there would have been no controversy because they would have been up by one point not down by one point if memory serves correctly. It isn't just him, NFL coaches have been increasingly aggressive on their play calls especially if should go for it on fourth down instead of kick the field goal or punting and going for the first down as opposed to running the ball on third down to kill the clock and make the other team use a timeout. I get it, people like that shit and having the guts to go for broke. However, is fine if you succeed if you don't and the other team comes back to win, You're screwed. I'm admit I wasn't a big fan of Dan Campbell hiring of the Lions head coach but he has done a great job. He went 3-13-1 in his first year in 2021 to leading the Lions one step away two years later. That's impressive especially for a team like the Lions. However, he needs to know his and his team's limits otherwise he might be like Brandon Staley who was the Los Angeles Chargers (still getting used to them being in LA) until he was fired this season and he was aggressive with his play-calling. He went for it on fourth down plenty of times including own his side of the field risking a chance for the other team to get good field position and I don't want Dan Campbell to end up like Staley. Yes, it's good to go for risk but know the situation and also if you have a chance to take points on a makeable field goal, do it because those three points can be the difference between a win or a loss.
