Who will be the Bucs next Hall of Famer?
Ronde Barber became the sixth Hall of Famer in Bucs History and the fourth player from the mid-90s to mid-2000s teams and that's not counting coach Tony Dungy. I was thinking who will be the next Bucs player to be in the Hall of Fame. Sadly, it would be Offensive Tackle Paul Gruber because he didn't go to the Pro Bowl and one needs to be named to a Pro Bowl team at least once. That's a shame, especially with Joe Thomas from the Browns who like Gruber was a top-five pick out of Wisconsin. Thomas was named to the Pro Bowl 10 times on bad Browns teams like how Gruber played on some bad Bucs teams. However, Gruber did see some playoff success or playoffs in general in 1997 and 1999 unlike his fellow Badger. On to the list.
Mike Evans: Too soon? He does have over 10 thousand receiving yards and over 80 touchdowns and has the longest streak of 1,000 receiver yards or more to begin a career with nine. I think it's more of a question of when not if. Also, will he continue his streak? I'll say too soon to say. Depending which Baker Mayfield shows up.
Hardy Nickerson: One of the first building blocks of what the Bucs would later come in the mid-90s to early 2000s as he signed with the Bucs as a free agent in 1993 joining a rookie safety named John Lynch. Right off the bat, Nickerson became the best player the Bucs had and went to the Pro Bowl that season and had four more during his Bucs tenure. He's one of the reasons why the Bucs went from bad to a contender. Why isn't Hardy in the Hall? Don't know, I don't know why Andy Russell isn't in the Hall of Fame and he was two more Pro Bowls and two more Super Bowls, Sorry Hardy. There's a logjam of Middle Linebackers including two each from the Broncos and the Falcons. It would be nice if another player went to the hall playing most of his Bucs career in Orange.
Jimmie Giles: Speaking of Orange Why Not have the Bucs best tight end of all time (sorry Gronk though he will go into the Hall)? A four-time Pro Bowler especially under McKay who was a coach who liked to run a lot plus it wasn't the NFL it is today, especially for Tight Ends though Air Coryell was around that time helping Kellen Winslow Sr. Being on Culverhouse's shit list after supporting Doug Williams and holding out for a better deal and Doug Williams leaving didn't help Giles. He has better numbers than John Mackey other than yards, Giles has better numbers than Charlie Sanders, and his numbers do compare to Mike Ditka and Dave Casper. Why not have Jimmie Giles in the Hall of Fame?
Mike Alstott: He will be a popular choice for Bucs fans to be in the Hall and unlike Hardy and Jimmie, Alstott has a Super Bowl ring. I can make the case for him being the last of the truly great Fullbacks. Plus he blocked for Warrick Dunn for Dunn's first five seasons.
