Welcome Allie Corey
As Kelly Ring is settling in retirement. Any chance of her being added to a contributor Fox 13 Tampa? Just asking. Anyway I did a post about who I think should have replaced Mrs. Ring in April with people who had local connections from retiredish with Allison Kropff and Heather Van Nest, freelanceish with Ashley Glass, in-house options, and those who had worked in Tampa stations and elsewhere now. I thought about listing more like those who were from Tampa Bay Area like Hilary Hunt from Little Rock and Lisa Greenberg from Fort Myers, a place where Tampa stations got talents like Shannon Clowe and Megan Myers. Also, I thought about adding some more people even though they had no connections to the Tampa Bay Area but they have a big following on social media and figured they should at least get consideration like Danielle Avaitable from Omaha who is from Florida and graduated from Florida State and Caroline Collins from Fresno and a big golf nut and what better place to a golf lover than Florida? It would bring in fans outside of the Tampa Bay Area. Granted Fox 13 probably began the search around late February when Mrs. Ring announce she was retiring about six weeks prior to my post. Unsure if they had someone by then or not. Honestly, I thought they would have got in-house like what News Channel 8 did when Gayle Guyardo retired from the Morning Program though she did return to host Bloom on WTTA (weekdays at noon) and WFLA replace her with Avery Cotton though technically she wasn't in-house hire because she retired three months prior to her replace Guyardo. Don't know if Cotton actually retired and WFLA asked her back or just left to take some time off until taking for Gayle. Also, Avery Cotton is pregnant so congrats to her and her husband. So I thought it would have been Haley Hinds. I was wrong, the new anchor replacing Kelly Ring's big shoes is Allie Corey from St. Louis. She was from Palm Harbor and graduated from FSU and according to a post on her IG page, she actually she tried to apply for an on-air position straight out of college. She says that the News Director at the time said to come back in five years. It's highly unlikely to get an on-air job in a TV market in Tampa Bay straight out of college though stranger things had happened. Courtney Friel got a job at Fox News coming from Jackson, Tennessee. Tampa Bay is 12th in the nation in the TV market. She ended up in Gainesville, Florida (probably not a great place to as a Nole grad), Providence, Rhode Island, and spent six years in St. Louis as the morning anchor there before coming back to Tampa 12 years later after trying to get hired by Fox 13 the first time. Bring her husband and two young kids with her. She debuted last Tuesday. Welcome Aboard Allie Corey or should I say Welcome back. At least she came back while we can still call ourselves Champa Bay. I know it's not over but it doesn't look good. Prove me wrong Bolts.
