Who should be the Bucs QB in 2020?
With one more game left in the 2019 Season aka the 100th season of the National Football League. If you're wondering, I want the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. Also, it was the 44th season of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where they finished 7-9 in Bruce Arians' first season as head coach. One of the big questions is what will the Bucs do with the Quarterback position in the 2020 season as Jameis Winston is a free agent. Yes, the Bucs could resign to a deal but do they especially for 30 million dollars a season? Plus does Arians want to risk giving Jameis another year? Personally, I want Jameis to leave and the Bucs to get another Quarterback but that's me. Also, no I will not suggest Colin Kaepernick. Not because I don't want to but with Tampa having a big Military population and a big Cuban population so that's not happening. There's a better chance of Antonio Brown being on the Bucs and that's also not happening. Arians was an assistant with the Pittsburgh Steelers and I doubt he wants to deal with AB again. Also, I wouldn't suggest Tom Brady sorry but no and the same goes for Big Ben even though Arians coached him and Eli Manning who's now retired. Here's are the options.
Keep Winston: Probably the more than likely option again depending on where the Bucs want to go. It is possible they can give him a contract like the Jaguars did with Blake Bortles and determine what happens in Jameis' sixth season to determine if keep or cut Jameis. Bortles was released by the Jaguars after one year of a three-year extension. Now he's with the Rams. Could the Bucs do with Jameis? Probably. He did get a vote of confidence from Carson Palmer who was coached by Arians in Arizona saying that will have a massive year if the Bucs bring him back. Jameis did led the league in passing yards and have 33 touchdown passes.
Cons: However, Jameis also threw for 30 interceptions. That's a lot even in Today's Pass happy league. Plus he hasn't led the Bucs to the playoffs unlike Marcus Mariotta who did led the Titans to the Playoffs two years ago (though Mariotta was benched, was a backup for Ryan Tannehill during the Titans playoff fun and will be a free agent). Also, Jameis and his off-field issues.
Sign Philip Rivers: Rivers is moving to Florida meaning his days as a Charger is more than likely over. I think the Bucs are the best option for him since the Jags might want to give Nick Foles/Gardner Minshew another season and the Dolphins more than likely draft a quarterback in the first round unless Rivers wants to be a mentor. Rivers is a prove veteran, 8 time Pro Bowler, and possibly a future Hall of Famer. He would be an upgrade.
Cons: Or will he be? He's coming off a 20 interception season and he's going to be 39 late next season. Plus at best, Rivers would get the Bucs one year maybe two.
Sign Andy Dalton: Unlike Big Ben, Eli, Brady, and Rivers, Dalton is 32 (33 in October). So he has some years left in the tank. Granted not as notable as the other four QBs but Dalton is a three-time Pro Bowler and was solid with Cincinnati. Plus the Bucs can sign him to a three or four year deal (maybe five if they want to go there).
Cons: He was benched for Ryan Finley during last season and I hate to say there are question marks when a QB was been benched but there are question marks. Also, there's still durability issue with Dalton.
Draft a QB: I doubt the Bucs will spend a first-round pick on a Quarterback but if Jake Fromm and/or Jacob Eason falls to the second round to the Bucs, they should get one of those guys.
Cons: Would the Bucs want to start all over by drafting another QB? Plus they still can get a veteran QB or keep Jameis. Nothing wrong with getting another QB just in case.
Possibly Sign Mariotta: I wanted to Bucs to get him in the 2015 NFL Draft instead Jameis. No Pro Bowls but did lead the Titans to the Playoffs in 2017. Younger than the other Quarterback I listed. The problem is was benched during the season and like Dalton, Marriota has durability issues. Honestly, I prefer Dalton.
