Andrew Luck
I found out this news Saturday night while I was working (actually on a break) and saw on my phone that Andrew Luck, the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts was going to retire. Honestly, I was surprised OK not much of a shocker because it was a surprise to most people. Luck was heading towards his 7th season (not counting the 2017 season because he missed that season due to his shoulder injury on his throwing side) where he was Comeback Player of the Year last season. Granted there were questions about his calf and if he was going to be healthy to start the season or not however this announcement his career is over. Jacoby Brissett is now the starting quarterback for the Colts and yes he does have experience. It started with the Patriots in 2016 when he started for them for two games when Tom Brady was suspended (deflate-gate anyone) and Jimmy Garoppolo was injured and went 1-1. Then when Andrew Luck missed the whole 2017 season, the Colts traded for him and started him in week 2 and was the starter for the rest of the season. He did OK (over 3,000 yards, 59 completion percentage, 13 Touchdowns, and 7 Interceptions) though was 4-11 granted not all of it was his fault (ask youtube star Urinating Tree). Now we'll see if Brissett can lead an improved Colts team. Honestly, I can't blame Luck for retiring, maybe a little for the timing but I understand. Luck suffered a number of injuries including the Shoulder injury in 2017 and the calf injury recently. Some of that was blamed on the Colts front office not giving Luck a good offensive line. Don't go me wrong, give a young QB, receivers and a running back is good but giving him a good offensive line is even better. Even though the front office did give him an Offensive Line which included drafting guard Quenton Nelson sixth overall in the 2018 NFL Draft who made the Pro Bowl his rookie year the damage was done. We love football and I'm sure most of us would love to play in the NFL however football is a dangerous game. Football Players were more likely to leave the game to chronic injuries than other professional athletes. Rob Gronkowski retired months ago because of injuries. Don't be surprised if more NFL players retire early heck some already had and you don't know much about them because their not the big names that Luck and Gronk were. They would rather walk away from the game than limp off. As for the Colts fans booing Luck, shame on you. This guy doesn't deserve it. He gave you his all and did it without an O-line. Boo Irsay and Ryan Grigson (the GM who didn't gave Luck a good O-Line) not Luck. Enjoy Retirement Luck and I'm sure I'll see you on TV or something (please have him team up with Peyton Manning on a show or commercial, something). Also, good luck to Jacoby Brissett, may the Colts do as well as they did with Luck under center. Also, throw some touchdown passes to Deon Cain please (he's a Tampa Bay Tech alum). Also any chance the Colts can sign Colin Kapernick? Would Mike Pence have a pissy fit if that happens? Would Pence rather have Carli Lloyd kick field goals for the Colts? Also to those who still want to play in the NFL, I say go for it though have a backup plan or two and be careful out there.
