The Rooney Rule didn't work this year
Of the eight NFL who got fired from their teams, five of them were black. Three I agree with (Marvin Lewis of the Cincinnati Bengals, Hue Jackson of the Cleveland Browns, and Todd Bowles of the New York J-E-T-S) and some of those coaches should have been fired sooner (Lewis and Jackson) but two I don't (Steve Wilks of the Arizona Cardinals and Vance Joseph of the Denver Broncos). I believe Wilks and Joseph should have had another season or two to fix things unless the record is 1-15 or 0-16 (Why did the Browns keep Jackson after going 1-31 in two years? Oh yeah it's the Browns though they did go 7-8-1 last season). Also, I doubt Jackson was fired for his record (all 3-36-1 of it), he was fired because he was in the power struggle with his Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley. They both lost, Haley was also fired and the Browns did much better without those two and promoted Freddie Kitchens as head coach this offseason. The scary part is it could have been worse, only one minority coach (Anthony Lynn of the Los Angeles Chargers) could have survived Black Monday. Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ron Rivera (Hispanic) of the Carolina Panthers could have been fired. Both teams suffered collapses after looking like Super Bowl contenders and especially Tomlin with the shitshow that the Pittsburgh Steelers was dealing with on and off the field. I hate to go after Tomlin because he was an assistant coach with the Buccaneers and was there when the Bucs won the Super Bowl in 2003 and also, he is a good head coach. I know but bad coaches don't win 100 games, bad coaches don't win Super Bowl (ok maybe you can debate that one and I'm sure Steelers fans can debate one as well), and bad coaches don't last over a decade with the same team especially now these days. All that said, he needs that locker room because the inmates are running the asylum. I don't think Tony Dungy lost the locker room. Bill Belichick doesn't pull up with the shit that Antonio Brown and others pulled and that's part of the reason why the Patriots are the best in the NFL. Tomlin needs to control the locker room in 2019 for starters trade Antonio Brown otherwise he'll be out of a job though if he does get fired after the 2019 season, I'm sure some teams will interview/hired him for the 2020 season. Went it came time to hired new coaches, only Brian Flores who was hired by the Miami Dolphins, was the only minority hired as a head coach. I know there were head scratches like Kliff Kingsbury by the Cardinals and Zac Taylor by the Bengals who were hired because those teams are hoping those guys will be like Sean McVay and turn the team offensives into the league's best like what McVay did with the Rams. Also, there was Adam Gase with the Jets after he was fired by the Dolphins (good luck with the one Jets). As a Bucs fan, I doubt Bruce Arians is going to last four seasons. I give him at least two seasons maybe three. If he doesn't last four seasons and things are going great (good at least) then Bowles will get promoted to head coach (Bucs hired Bowles as a Defensive Coordinator). I will say this, The Rooney Rules needs to be revised or something because this not a great time for only one minority to be hired as head coach, especially since the NFL, has taken hits from liberals like me on Colin Kaepernick not being signed because President Trump grabbed NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell by the pussy along the 32 owners of the NFL (OK I can't confirm it but I can't deny either). Not to mention a new pro-Football League has started with the Alliance of American Football and next year another one will start or restart I should say in the XFL and this time Tampa will have a team, last time it was Orlando that had an XFL team. If you're wondering the AofAFL has two minority head coaches out of eight teams. I'm sure most of the new head coaches are qualified to be there if not all though I have question marks on some of them. Also, I do hope Arians does a great job with the Bucs. The Rooney Rule isn't perfect but it has given opportunities to some minorities who probably wouldn't be head coaches without it but since only one minority got a head coaching job, I think it's time to revise it.
