Urban Freaking Meyer
Oh where to go with this freaking douche (can you tell I don't like the guy?). I'm admit, I am a Florida Gator fan and let's just not a fan. Yes I know when he was Utah Utes coach in 2004 when given the choice between taking the Notre Dame job (which was Meyer's dream job) and the Florida job, he chose the Gator job because his mentor and former boss ex-Ohio State and Colorado State coach Earle Bruce suggested he take the job because of recruiting talent in the state of Florida. Yes I know that Meyer won two SEC and National Championship with the Gators (2006 and 2008) and brought in talent like Joe Haden, Percy Harvin, and of course Heisman Winner Tim Tebow. However the reason I hate Urban Meyer is he left Florida for "health reasons" and a year later he decided he was healthy enough to coach in Ohio State. OK a dick move for me to assume he was faking an illness. He could have had real health issues but it seems a little silly that he left the Gators which is a high stressful job then to go coach at Ohio State another high stressful job if not higher than UF which it probably is in a year. It seems whatever he was doing for his health in Ohio State must have worked because he posted 73-8 record in six years there including a 2014 National Championship and groans from Gator fans including myself wondering what if Cam Newton didn't f'ed up in Florida and was the Starting quarterback in 2010 and not John Brantley. Would the Gators won the national championship that year and would Meyer stay past in 2010 if that did happen? Fun to dream. Nothing against John Brantley, the coaching staff didn't adjust his abilities in 2010 like they did with Chris Leak earlier in Meyer's tenure which led to the 2006 title. It seems Meyer in 2010 was just collecting a paycheck and that's it for the 8-5 season which was his last with Florida. Meyer made Steve Spurrier better in comparsion in two respects; 1. Spurrier was honest in being ambitious wanting to give the NFL a try which didn't pan out for him and he came back to college at South Carolina (a division rival of the Gators) and 2. when Spurrier heart wasn't in it, he decide to retire from South Carolina midseason. Granted not a good time to quit but would you rather have a guy who continues to coach with his heart not in it (Meyer in 2010) or a guy who realizes his heart wasn't in it and decides to retire right away (Spurrier in 2015)? I know it took me a while to get to the scandal of his former WR coach Zach Smith beating his now ex-wife which he "claims" he defending himself. I doubt it plus I think he trying to save his ass well more like Meyer's ass because Smith's ass is fired and more than likely won't coaching be anymore. Same could be said about Urban Meyer if he does get fired. Also Meyer release a statement that he did report the incident in question. Sadly, it's nothing new to Meyer because during his Florida tenure he had about 30 players who got in trouble which include murderer Aaron Hernandez. I was disgusted when CNN did a story about Hernandez when they talked about an incident where he punched a Bar Manager who had his eardrum badly damaged and instead of kicking out Hernandez, UF officials made a deal with the manager (unsure if anyone from Meyer's staff was there). ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Hernandez should not have played for the Gators (the incident happened in 2007 before the season started). The downside of the glory days of the Gators in 2006 to 2009. Not included Zach Smith was a graduate assistant in 2009 when he pushed his then pregnant wife against a wall. Why did Meyer hired him to be his WR coach when he came to Ohio State in 2012? One would have thought he could have hired anyone he could of and more than likely with a clean record and he hires Smith again knowing of the 2009 incident. Did he hire him again because Smith is Earle Bruce's (Meyer's mentor) grandson? That hire is going to bite him in the ass. OK Granted the investigation could take weeks possibly months (hopefully a lot shorter than the Mueller investigation) but it doesn't look good for Meyer considering some situations from college sports. Joe Paterno was a legend at Penn State: FIRED, Art Briles took Baylor into a powerhouse after being a doormat in the Big 12: FIRED, Jim Leavitt: Build the USF football program from the ground up including leading them to being the number two team in the country: FIRED, and Rick Pitino who had a good career at Louisville and was a legendary college basketball coach: FIRED. Also Jim McElwain was fired as Gators coach last season after lying about Death Threats if he didn't I think he would still be the Gators coach this upcoming year (or at least he would have finished the year). If those guys got fired, I believe Meyer will get his pink slip. Might want to update your resume Urb.
