RIP John McCain
I'm sure if you seen my pervious posts, I'm not the nicest to Republicans. I've said some crude and vulgar things about them mostly because how the Republican leaders/candidates are bending down/bending over for Trump. Also standing behind Trump it seems like no matter what. You would think they want Pence to take over by now. Anyway I going to talk about one of the few Republicans I respect and that's John McCain and hearing the sad news that he was no longer receiving treatment for his brain cancer and then a day later, died at the age of 81. I was hoping to finish this before he died. This is a guy who has served his country for over 60 years with his Military Service (Navy) and his political career. He fought in Vietnam where he was a Prisoner Of War when his plane was shot down, later captured, and suffered brutal torture for five and a half years that left him with permanent injuries. Something that the POS president Trump either forgot or didn't care about when he attacked him on only being a war hero because he was captured. I should add that Trump was able to avoid being drafted because he was rich (bone spurs my ass). My dad served in the Navy overseas during that time (didn't served in Vietnam but he still served). McCain probably could have avoid combat duty because his dad was a highly ranked officer but younger McCain chose to volunteer for combat duty. Also McCain was awarded Navy Commendation Medal (first of two) and the Bronze Star (first of three) during his Vietnam service. Also received the Silver Star. Sounds like a war hero to me. After being released from captured, he continued to serve in the Navy including serving as the Navy's liaison in the US Senate which led him to consider a career in politics. He retired from the Navy in 1981 realizing he wouldn't be able to reach the rank of full admiral like his dad and Granddad though he could of reach rear admiral but decided to start his political career. After retiring from the Navy, he moved to Arizona where his wife Cindy lived and worked for his father-in-law, who owned a large Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship. In 1982, McCain ran for the US Congress in Arizona's 1st district. He won the seat and served in congress for two terms (four years) before decided to run for the senate seat when Barry Goldwater decided to retire prior to the 1986 elections. McCain was elected to senate where his been ever since his death. He was called a maverick. He also ran for president twice in 2000 and 2008, I think his best chance was 2000 (Do you really think Al Gore would have a chance against McCain?, I doubt it). I'm admit I probably would have voted for McCain if I was eligible to vote (I was 16 so I couldn't vote). However he ran into the Bush War Machine (George W Bush who later became the president) tore up McCain by attacking him on fathering a black child out of wedlock (Bridget was adopted from Bangladesh), saying that his wife was a drug addict, and that McCain would a "Manchurian Candidate". Some nasty stuff from the Bush team and they were attacking someone from their own damn party. I mean seriously? I doubt the Bush team went that far against Al Gore in Political attack ads. I was disgusted looking at what was said on Wikipedia and again team Bush was attacking someone in their own party that way. Despite the nasty attacks against him, McCain endorsed Bush and campaigned with him in a few events. He's a better man then I would be because I wouldn't do crap for someone coming after me like Bush did to McCain in the 2000 South Carolina primary. I probably tell him to get screw themselves. Then he ran again 2008, wasn't looking too good for him especially after losing Iowa and having money issues but he won New Hampshire, South Carolina, and ended up winning the nomination three months faster than Obama did. McCain was going against history in Barack Obama being the first African-American presidential candidate and also Republicans having a rough time with Iraq being a disaster, Katrina response, and the financial crisis. Also McCain picking Sarah Palin also didn't help. I see what he was doing because after Hillary left the race, a number of her supporters mostly woman didn't like how they believe Hillary was treated and threaten not to vote for Obama. I can't blame for picking a women but probably should have picked someone like Kay Bailey Hutchinson (then US Senator from Texas), Marsha Blackburn (US Rep from Tennessee), Lisa Murkowski (Senator from Alaska), one of the ladies who were senators from Maine (Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe), or Gabby Giffords (OK more likely wasn't going to happen but doesn't the running mate need to in the same party? Plus he actually wanted Joe Liberman who was an Independent and one time Vice President candidate for Gore in 2000 but was convinced by his aide his pick would be bad for the Republican party of Liberman's liberal views). Palin did energize the party until she did the interview with Katie Couric which was a disaster. Let's face it, if you had to pick a poster woman for a conservative women then Palin would be your lady. However being Vice President is a little challenging I just said. Also I've been seeing CNN's decade miniseries that's executive produce by Tom Hanks and they're covering the 2000's and they showed a clip when they were talking about the 2008 election where McCain shut down one of his supporters after she called Obama "an Arab" and McCain said that Obama is a "decent family man citizen". You got to love that a candidate would rather lose an election the right way then to win one with deplorables. You have to admire John McCain for that. What happened between 2008 to 2016? Also McCain was one of five Republican senators most likely to vote with Obama on significant votes. Also he was a big supports of Arizona sports teams and had a great sense of humor and made appearances on the Daily Show especially a cameo , did a few skits on Saturday Night Live before the 2008 elections, and had a cameo in The Wedding Crashers starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. I'm admit I didn't agree with a number of things issues he had but he was a great patriot and one of the few Republicans I admire. Thoughts and prayers go to the McCain family including his widow Cindy, his children, and his mom. John McCain will be missed. Clip on the bottom:
